today we brough canvases so some folks started a painting! it was cool to see different styles emerge. we will continue to work on these next time. more patches were made and we also started a series of painted flags...
we listened to music and sang and talked about the state of the world.
we also looked at the display case in the community center and talked about what could go in there for pride...it's fun to start thinking about messaging and medium. we talked about the origin of pride and the american Stonewall uprising and the canadian Brunswick Four. pride was started as a riot for human rights against the police and often the image of brick represents this. today pride is often a parade and a party but initially it was a fight to be able to live out and proud as gay, lesbian and trans people. we also talked about how pride can also feel co-opted by capitalism and pink washing. so it is important to make sure pride is what each individual makes it out to be for them.
It will be interesting to see how the artwork evolves.
